It is a known fact that the skin is the largest organ in the body and it only takes around 6 seconds for every cell to absorb what you expose it to that then travels directly into your bloodstream.
What is not talked about as much as it should be is what chemicals then do you surround yourself in? What do you put on and in your body and what effects do they have on the body? It really is time to take matters in your own hands and transform your way of thinking and way of life. Granted, you cannot control what exposures you encounter outside in the world, but what you can control is what you expose yourself to as soon as you cross your threshold into your home, your sacred space, your sanctuary of wellness and unwinding.
Take the bedroom space for example. Every night you should aim for 8 beautiful hours of sleep in your sacred sanctuary of restoration. In a week that is 56 hours and in a year that is around 3000 hours of sleep. But do you really know what you're sleeping with in all this time? Do you know what chemicals you surround yourself with for all of these hours that may be adversely affecting your health? Is your bedroom really a sacred space free from chemicals, toxic dyes and paints? It should be.
There is so much research that reveals how the chemicals we expose ourselves to adversely affect our bodies. The human immune system is damaged or weakened by exposure to pesticides, plastics and a variety of chemicals in our common consumer products. Petroleum based chemicals in our beauty products are being found to cause accelerated aging to the brain, defense systems including the blood brain barrier and immune system as well as altering critical hormones necessary for neurological and behavioural development. The chemicals used to produce dyes in our textiles are highly toxic, carcinogenic, hormone disruptive or even explosive.
Now is the time for transformation. Now is the time for making positive changes. Now is the time for questioning and diving deeper into a world of interrogation and demand to know the truth. What is in the beauty products you use? What is in the food that you eat? What is in the clothes that you wear? What is in the sheets that you sleep in? Knowledge is power and with power comes positive life changing experiences and responsible consumer choices that are good for you and good for the planet.
What peace of mind you can have knowing the minute you enter the threshold of your home and close that door, you know it really is a sanctuary of wellness and comfort and an environment free from chemicals and toxins. You really can create spaces that are thriving and alive with plants, products and materials that have positive healing effects on your body and mind. Transforming your way of thinking will help you transform your home, your way of life and ultimately your health and well-being.
