HOW TO CARE

  • Our Organic Sateen Bedding is pre-washed for you to use immediately
  • Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle with plant based detergents and no bleaching agents
  • Wash colours separately
  • Shake well before line drying
  • Avoid direct sunlight as this can cause the colour to fade
  • Can be tumble dried on warm 
  • Creases will soften with your body warmth but if you need to, iron inside out in a warm setting
  • Make sure it is fully dry before storing away or putting it back on the bed

WHERE DOES BHUMI SOURCE ORGANIC COTTON FROM?

Currently Bhumi sources all of its organic cotton from India (and organic Linen from Belgium). India has one of the longest and respected textile traditions in the world, which means it provides us access to some of the highest quality production facilities in the world that comply with Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Soil Association requirements.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CHOOSING CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON?

Not only does organic cotton have a low environmental impact, but it is also softer and more gentle and durable than standard cotton making it a natural choice for all our products. Choosing organic cotton brings the intrinsic beauty of nature into your home without the presence of any nasties (toxic chemicals, GMO, etc.) and allows you to enjoy the purest form of cotton as nature intended it to be ...and knowing it was ethically made in adherence to the strictest environmental standards.

WHY AREN'T WOOL, FEATHER, AND DOWN QUILT INSERTS A SUSTAINABLE AND ETHICAL OPTION?

Down feathers are frequently obtained through the painful process of plucking them from live birds, causing distress and discomfort to the animals. It is a cruel practice that involves removing the feathers from the sensitive skin of geese, typically requiring the feathers of 40 to 54 geese to produce enough down for a single king-size quilt insert. This mass extraction not only inflicts physical pain but also subjects the birds to considerable stress and trauma.

Similarly, the production of wool often involves inhumane practices, including the shearing of sheep without the administration of pain relief. Sheep, whose wool is harvested, endure the painful process of having large pieces of skin and flesh cut from their backs, causing significant discomfort and suffering. This practice, performed without regard for the welfare of the animals, reflects a disregard for their well-being and highlights the need for more humane and ethical approaches to animal farming and product manufacturing.

WHY DON'T WE USE BAMBOO?

Bamboo has been marketed as a sustainable and eco-friendly material due to its fast-growing nature and minimal need for pesticides and fertilisers. However, the truth is more complex. The production of bamboo fabrics involves heavy processing to turn a hard, strong material into a soft one by using chemicals that can have harmful environmental impacts. It’s been discovered that the dangerous chemicals involved in the manufacturing process of viscose bamboo aren’t always being properly managed, which is leading to health and environmental issues.
It is important to understand the full picture of bamboo's environmental and social impact before considering it a sustainable choice.

INGREDIENTS
Organic Cotton

We start at the source: our cotton seeds are organic, not GMOs, and our farm partners rely exclusively on non-toxic resources to qualify as 100% organic.
Rain water

We use harvested monsoon rain water throughout the entire seed to shelf journey to avoid wasting this precious natural resource.
DYES

We use non toxic GOTS certified dyes. All our prints and fabrics are dyed using water based dyes free of ammonia, formaldehyde, chlorine bleach and toxic heavy metals.

Potato starch

Instead of using harsh toxic chemicals during production and finishing, we use potato starch to coat the threads which strengthens and prevents breakdown.
Neem

Using age old traditional farming practices we use Neem as an organic pest and fungal control for our crops instead of toxic insecticides or pesticides.
Marigold

We work with nature to protect the land by using innovative natural pest control methods and the power of the humble marigold.
Solar Power

We use the power of the sun. Our mills harness the suns energy with on site solar plants.
