The "Seed to Shelf" process refers to the entire supply chain from the planting of organic cotton seeds to the delivery of finished products to Bhumi’s customers. following an ethical and environmentally responsible supply chain is crucial for ensuring that every step of the process is sustainable and promotes the well-being of everyone involved, from the farmers to the end-users.

STEP 1

Planting The seed

The process begins with organic cotton farmers planting non-GMO organic cotton seeds without the use of any synthetic fertilisers or pesticides. Instead, they use organic fertilisers and natural pest control methods to promote healthy growth.

STEP 2

Harvesting and Ginning

When the cotton is fully grown and ready for harvest, the farmers pick the cotton by hand or using a machine. The cotton is then taken to a gin, which separates the cotton fibers from the seeds.

STEP 3

Spinning, Weaving & Knitting

The cotton fibres are then spun into yarn, which is used to make fabric. The yarn is then woven into fabric using various weaving techniques. For some of our products which are knitted, once the yarn is ready, it is loaded onto a knitting machine, which uses needles to interlock the yarn into a fabric. The needles move up and down to create a series of loops, which are then interlocked with adjacent loops to create a continuous fabric.

STEP 4

Dyeing

The organic cotton fabric is dyed using and dyed using water based GOTS approved dyes, which are free from AZO dyes, toxic chlorine bleach, toxic heavy metals, toxic formaldehyde, toxic aromatic solvents with no toxic colour fasteners to artificially lock in the colour with chemicals. natural dyes. We use all-natural and many plant based dyes such as indigo, turmeric, and tea leaves to impart beautiful hues inspired by nature.

STEP 5

Cutting and Sewing

Once the fabric has been dyed, it is cut into the appropriate sizes and shapes for the finished product. Then, it is sewn together using ethical and fair labor practices, ensuring that workers are paid fair wages and work in safe conditions.

STEP 6

Repurposing

Cottonseed is a byproduct of cotton farming, and it can be used as a feed for livestock, including cows. Organic cottonseed is produced from cotton plants that have been grown without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers. If these seeds are left over after the cotton crop is harvested, they can be used as a feed source for cows on farms.

STEP 7

Packaging and Shipping

After the products have been sewn, they are packaged using sustainable materials such as recycled paper and cardboard, free of any plastic. Then, they are shipped to customers' doors using eco-friendly shipping methods, which are carbon offset.

The final step in the process is when you receive and use your Bhumi products. All of our products are made in an ethically and responsibly manner, ensuring that you only receive the best quality and are more durable and long lasting, reducing the need for frequent replacements.
